I’m Dr. Jennifer Feeney, and I’m a veterinarian with 30 years experience and a special interest in behavior. I am certified in Applied Animal Behavior, as well as having over 200 hours of continuing education in pet behavior and behavior modification. I’m also Fear Free Elite Certified, Low Stress Handling Silver Certified, Cat Friendly Handling Certified, AVMA Human-Animal Bond Certified and KP Better Vet Visits Certified. If you’re having any of these or any other behavior problems with your cat or dog, please call or email to discuss scheduling a Behavior Consult.

Together, we can work on diagnosing the behavior disorder and creating a behavior modification plan to help you help your pet through whatever issue is causing the distress. Some behavior problems stem from medical issues, so a thorough exam and bloodwork is required before your visit from your regular veterinarian. Sometimes the behavior modification plan will involve behavior medications to help get your pet out of the fear based fight or flight mindset and into a calm, learning mindset so that the prescribed behavioral modification plan can be instituted with success.

Keep in mind that behavior modification is a long term process and requires patience and daily work on your part, there is no “magic pill” or quick fix for this. Many of these problems are a results of miscommunication and misunderstanding between pet and owner, issues with early puppy or kitten socialization or training (often before the owner even gets the pet), related to instincts due to breeding or genetics, or caused by an undiagnosed medical condition.
