What To Expect

What to expect when you book an appointment with

Build A Better Bond Pet Behavior Managment

This will explain how to prepare for your visit and what our time together will involve.

Before the Visit: Please fill out the appropriate canine or feline behavior questionnaire for your dog or cat (links below). It’s somewhat lengthy, but when filling out this form, think about your goals for the visit for you, your family and your pet. This will help you define the problems you are having with your pet and the results you hope for, so that you can live together with less stress. Unfortunately, we have a limited amount of time to spend together; and I want to make it as therapeutic as possible, so including as much detail as you can on the history form will help me prepare for your visit.

If you have any paperwork or information from previous owners, rescue/shelter please scan and send via email before the appointment.  If you’re not able to scan, please have this paperwork available for me to take with me to review at a later date.

What to have on hand: If your dog requires a muzzle for any reason, please have it ready. Depending on your pet’s needs, please place the muzzle on prior to my arrival, if this is necessary to keep everyone safe. Please also have plenty of special treats that your pet loves (cheese, chicken, etc.).

The Visit: Your visit will last about 60-90 minutes. First, I will observe your pet and take a detailed behavioral and physical history, following which we will discuss your pet’s assessment and initial treatment plan.  Finally, I will email a you a full detailed Behavior Consult Report within 7-10 days of our visit, detailing everything we discussed and the plan for your pet. I will email a copy of this report to your veterinarian too, unless you request otherwise.

Behavioral Medication: If a behavioral medication is recommended, and your pet has not had any blood tests done in the last three months, I will require this within one month of starting treatment. Please have this done at your regular veterinarian and sent to me before your pet needs his/her first medication refill.

***** PLEASE NOTE***** I am licensed in NJ to dispense medication, so if you are in another state, I will contact your veterinarian with the treatment plan for him or her to dispense medication for you.

Follow Up Instructions: You will have ample time for questions and discussion during your visit. You will receive a treatment plan and detailed behavior modification information via a consultation email within one week of your appointment. THERE WILL BE WORK FOR YOU TO DO. Medication is not magic and will not “fix” the problem, although it does make it much easier for an anxious and fearful dog to be in a learning mindset. But the real magic is the Behavioral Modification you will do daily with your dog to create new and more positive associations with previously frightening things. There is virtually 100% chance that I will recommend that you work with a credentialed, positive reinforcement ONLY trainer.

Sometimes, something will come up that may require a visit to your regular veterinarian for follow up for possible medical causes of the behavior problem at hand. I will send your veterinarian a copy of the behavior consult for their records and hopefully we will be able to work together going forward.

Fees and Follow Up Visits: The initial consultation fee is $425 for a 60-90 minute in-home or Zoom appointment with Dr. Feeney. The initial consult and all follow up visits include three months of email/phone support. If you are farther than 5 miles from our home office in Bridgewater, NJ, there will be a charge of 65.5 cents per mile as per the standard mileage rage for travel per the IRS.

I look forward to working with you and thank you for allowing me to participate in the care of your pet.

Dr. Jennifer Feeney
